Clearwater Casino Resort Announces Extension of Temporary Closure

As a major entertainment destination in Kitsap County, the safety of our guests, team members, and community remains our top priority. As you know, in an effort to ensure the health and well-being of everyone, Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort made the difficult decision to temporarily close until April 7th.

Given the recent developments in the COVID-19 outbreak and community-wide efforts to prevent the spread of the virus by limiting access to entertainment facilities, on Friday, March 27, the Suquamish Tribal Council ordered the Suquamish Clearwater Casino Resort and other Port Madison Enterprises facilities to close through Tuesday, April 7th (“extended closure”).

As we continue to closely evaluate tribal, federal, state and local recommendations regarding COVID-19, the estimated date for re-opening is subject to change.

Port Madison Enterprises will continue to compensate full-time employees and provide coverage for those employees enrolled in health benefits through the extended closure. As we understand the significant role our team members play in our success, it’s important to ensure that they can continue to comply with the state-wide directive of staying home and taking care of their health along with their families and loved-ones.

This extended closure consists of the Casino gaming floor, all restaurants and bars, hotel, Angeline Spa, Kiana Lodge, White Horse Golf Club and the store at the Longhouse Texaco. The Masi Shop and Suquamish Village Chevron will remain open on limited hours but gasoline will still be available 24/7 at all gas stations. All casino promotions, drawings and events scheduled before April 8th will be postponed until further notice.

Postponed Concerts
& Safety Update

Following Governor Inslee’s press conference yesterday, he invited the Washington Tribes to join him on a working session. During that call Governor Inslee explained his commitment to working with these sovereign Tribal Governments, and was hoping to consult with them on best practices to work together on this health crisis. He made it clear that he does not expect casinos to close; rather, his focus was on concerts, sporting events, and other events of that nature.

After consulting with our Suquamish Tribal Government, we’ve made the decision to reschedule or cancel all such events of 250 people or more through April 1, 2020.

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Screaming Images, a Las Vegas printing company, relies heavily for business on creating large scale banners for events like the Electric Daisy Carnival and sporting events.

That industry has been decimated by the coronavirus pandemic.

13 HELPS: List of resources for Nevadans during coronavirus pandemic

Screaming Images owner James Swanson said they retooled their business to help Las Vegas reopen safely with their 'Keep Vegas Clean' initiative.

'I had to furlough a bunch of people that I love very much,' Swanson said, 'and I want to bring them back as soon as possible.'

The first move they made was to invent a barrier to encourage social distancing at casinos in the valley they call 'Gaming Barrier.'

The barrier is made of flexible clear acrylic separating the dealer from players and players from each other.

Swanson said they already had a supplier, Laird Plastics, who could provide a quality acrylic to create the Gaming Barrier.

Special Projects Engineer Torre said the barriers have gone through 4 phases of improvement as they tested the product at tables at the El Cortez Hotel and Casino.

'It looks good. Efficient,' Torre said, 'it's safe for the employees. It's safe for the customers.'

Torre said the Gaming Barrier can be installed by three people in around 15 minutes, it doesn't damage the table, and can be easily removed.

'This is going to be a temporary thing, we hope,' he said.

The Gaming Barrier is one part of their 'Keep Vegas Clean' initiative.

Swanson said they're also working on acrylic barriers for ride share vehicles called Share Shield, smaller barriers to separate slot machines, point of sale barriers, and graphics to help casinos to enforce social distancing directives when they're allowed to reopen.

Swanson said the Gaming Barrier and slot barriers are in their final testing phases, and the Share Shield is in early development.
